Is ABA Right for My Child?

As a parent in Toronto, you may be wondering: “Is ABA right for my child?” It’s a question we hear often and a thoughtful one. At the Geneva Centre for Autism (GCA), we understand how overwhelming it can feel to choose the right support for your child. That’s why we offer a range of children’s programs designed to meet your family where you are, and to grow alongside your child’s unique needs.

What Is ABA?

ABA stands for Applied Behaviour Analysis. At its heart, ABA is about teaching meaningful, everyday skills—like communication, emotional regulation, self-care, and play—through clear steps, positive reinforcement, and individualized strategies.

At the Geneva Centre, ABA isn’t one-size-fits-all. Our clinicians work with each child to make therapy engaging, playful, and supportive—so that skills learned at the Centre carry over into daily life at home, school, and in the community.

How Do I Know if ABA Is Right for My Child?

Here are some common situations where ABA-based programs may help:

  • Your child is just beginning to communicate or has difficulty expressing needs.
  • Transitions, like getting ready for school or bedtime, often lead to stress and meltdowns.
  • Social interactions feel overwhelming, and making or keeping friends is a struggle.
  • You’re looking for ways to support your child’s independence and confidence in daily routines.

  •

When ABA is a good fit, families often notice:

  • More positive communication (fewer meltdowns, more requests).
  • Calmer mornings, mealtimes, and bedtime routines.
  • Growing confidence for both parents and children.
