Improving Support for Autistic Females

Insights from a Clinician, Parent, and Advocate

Autistic females are consistently underdiagnosed, and this diagnostic gap creates major challenges in understanding and meeting their needs. This session brings together a clinician-scientist, a self-advocate, and a parent to share their personal and professional perspectives on how to bridge this gap. Their collective insights helped inform a new paper to appear in The Lancet and offer a roadmap for integrating lived experience into clinical practice.

What You’ll Learn in This Session:

  • Why are fewer females diagnosed with autism, and what this means across the lifespan.
  • Real-world insights from a neurodivergent woman, a parent of an autistic daughter, and an autism researcher.
  • Themes from an upcoming Lancet publication on improving support for autistic females.
