If you are a parent or caregiver of a child with autism or an autistic youth, or a professional supporting these families, you have probably heard of the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) but maybe you’re still unsure how it all works.

What Is OAP Funding, and Why Is It Important?

The Government of Ontario offers the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). This is financial support to families of children and youth on the autism spectrum. Funding is needs-based and ranges from $6,600-$65,000. OAP funding can open doors to services that might otherwise feel out of reach.

Visit the Ontario Autism Program website or call the OAP team to get your child signed up. 

 

What Can OAP Funding Be Used For? 

Once a child or youth is registered with Ontario Autism Program, families can access different types of services:

 

OAP Free Services

Families can access programs funded by the government which can be applied for through the Toronto Autism Services Network (TASN). TASN is a single access point for families to receive OAP funded services which includes:

 

What Can OAP Funding Be Used For?

Families can also utilize funding from OAP to purchase services that fit their child’s individual needs. You can use this funding to pay for  the following services:

  • Early Intensive Intervention
  • Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)
  • Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)
  • Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • Mental health services (counselling and/or psychotherapy)
  • Technology, program materials, and/or therapy equipment, as recommended by a regulated professional providing or overseeing the child’s services
